About Us
Welcome to Space Apps NYC!
Founded in 2012, Space Apps NYC has evolved from a local hackathon to the largest regional community of space enthusiasts, developers, and innovators outside of NASA. We are driven by a passion to improve life on Earth and further the exploration of space. Each year, we host the NASA Space Apps Challenge in New York City, bringing together bright minds and creative spirits from diverse backgrounds to solve some of the toughest challenges on Earth and beyond.
Our Mission
Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to learn about technology and engage in problem-solving, hands-on, in ways that make a real difference. At Space Apps NYC, we provide a platform for thinkers, designers, makers, and entrepreneurs to collaborate on projects that foster innovation and create meaningful solutions.
What We Do
- Annual Hackathons: Our flagship event, the NASA Space Apps Challenge, is a 48-hour sprint where teams dive into NASA’s free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space.
- Community Building: We organize meetups, workshops, and educational events throughout the year to foster a thriving community of space enthusiasts and tech innovators.
- Youth Engagement: We are committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers through targeted programs and partnerships with local schools and youth organizations.
- Innovation Hub: Space Apps NYC serves as a hub for innovation, where people can come together to brainstorm, innovate, and implement solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible.
Our Impact
Over the years, Space Apps NYC has seen numerous projects develop into viable solutions that have been implemented in various sectors, from environmental conservation to educational tools. We take pride in our community’s achievements and the positive impact our collective effort has on society.
